Internet Dating Inevitabilities Who said it would never happen to you? In case it still didn’t…
There are married couples who have met on an Internet dating site and who have lived happily ever after, and there are married couples who have met each other in school and who have divorced a few months later after their marriage. It reminds me of one of my favorite films and especially of a phrase from this film, something like, “When marrying someone, we should know as little as possible about his defects, because they appear quite soon anyway. That is why in a marriage, being happy is a matter of good luck and fate.” Internet dating sites must be using this tip right along.
I wonder if you have ever thought about it or, at least, if you’re ever going to think about it. Maybe you have, maybe not. These are only my own observations and it’s only my life experience here. Anyway, these are some odd things I have noticed, things I’d really like to share with you:
1. Before building our profile, we can never know how talented we are and what hobbies and interests we have. (I have discovered my passion for sports and reading.)
2. On the Internet, a lot of new photos have actually been taken years BEFORE. (I won’t deny I did the same thing, but I still do look like that)
3. You may have a lot of fun with Internet dating, but you won’t win a lot from it. There are more chances for you to lose than to win.
4. We are actually being so naive in thinking people on the Internet always tell the truth about their life, habits, weight, height and so on. Just because it’s on the Internet, it doesn’t mean it must be true. (All that is being said on TV must be also true then…)
5. On the Internet, everyone will try to make a beauty out of himself/herself or pretend being someone who he/she isn’t. (Don’t be surprised then to see a Minnie Mouse turn into a Minnie Driver.)
6. Before even meeting those virtual strangers, they already know all personal details of our life stories. (Who cares about inhibitions?)
7. When meeting face-to-face the virtual stranger you have discovered chemistry with on the Internet, this chemistry may either disappear like smoke in the wind or catch fire. (And, I admit it, I really do believe in chemistry.)
8. On the Internet, usually men’s height is 2-5 inches bigger than it really is, so is with women’s miraculously 10-20 pounds less than usual weight. (25 pounds in my case.)
9. If it happens so that “you don’t have success at first”, Internet dating will teach you to “try it again and again”. (That doesn’t mean being too insistent is bad, however.)
10. Why pay these extra membership fees for seeing a lot of possible “partners” and, in the end, getting disappointed about them? (When we used to get the same results for free…)
If none of these things has ever happened to you when dating online, then it must be someone else who has been done this by you.
